I wanted to write something from the perspective of the people whose responsibility it often is to deal with these unlicensed releases. Regardless of whether or not they like that responsibility’s consequence in these instances, or whether they ultimately hope for a future in which these creatures exist in the wild, the buck often falls with them. The story is about rural ideologies, the many fors and againsts, and looking for balance in an environment that is intrinsically off-kilter.
